Senior Staff Embedded Firmware Engineer (IoT)

Location: Carlsbad, California, United States; salary eligibility is stated for candidates in the United States or Canada.

Salary: $200,000–$2,200,000/year for US candidates; CAD 140,000–170,000/year for Canada candidates.

What you will do

• Define long-term embedded firmware architecture across multiple product families.
• Lead scalable and reusable firmware platforms for IoT and video streaming devices.
• Coordinate technical initiatives across firmware, hardware, cloud, mobile, manufacturing, and ODM partners.
• Evaluate SoCs, chipsets, wireless technologies, image sensors, operating systems, and software frameworks.
• Architect real-time software for multimedia, networking, security, and power-efficient embedded systems.
• Establish engineering practices, resolve complex system-level issues, optimize firmware, and mentor senior engineers.

Requirements

• 15+ years of embedded firmware development experience with connected IoT devices and video streaming products.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience; a master’s degree is preferred.
• Expert-level Embedded C and modern C++ skills, with deep experience in RTOS, Embedded Linux, and real-time architecture.
• Experience with multimedia systems, video and audio processing, image processing, streaming technologies, and H.264/H.265.
• Strong knowledge of embedded networking, device drivers, HAL, bootloaders, BSP, system bring-up, ARM processors, memory systems, DMA, interrupts, cache, and power management.
• Experience with debugging hardware/software interactions, Git workflows, automated testing, CI, performance optimization, and technical leadership.

Nice to have

• Experience with Matter, Thread, Zigbee, Z-Wave, BLE Mesh, or other IoT ecosystems.
• Linux kernel development, memory management, file systems, system security, secure boot, TEE, OTA updates, TPMs, or hardware security features.
• Experience with U-Boot, platform startup optimization, Python or Lua automation, and firmware platforms spanning multiple product lines.
• Experience collaborating with global engineering teams and ODM partners.
