Senior Avionics Engineer (Space)

Location: San Francisco, United States. U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or refugee/asylee status required to comply with U.S. Government space technology export regulations.

Base salary: $145,000–$235,000 USD per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Architect, design, and develop radiation-tolerant, highly reliable electronics for satellite operations.
• Lead hardware development from requirements gathering and architecture definition through component selection, schematic capture, layout, simulation, design-for-manufacturing, bringup, verification, and qualification.
• Design avionics subsystems for internal communications, power distribution, sensor aggregation, and flight computers.
• Collaborate with mechanical, thermal, software, RTL, RF, GNC, and manufacturing engineers to solve complex hardware problems.
• Work with contract manufacturers to ensure designs are manufacturable, delivered on schedule, and meet quality and reliability requirements.
• Maintain project schedules, improve hardware development processes, and support recruiting and hiring.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a similar technical discipline.
• 5+ years of professional experience with fast-paced product design cycles.
• 5+ years of board-level hardware design experience from concept through production.
• Experience designing, building, and testing hardware from scratch.
• Strong analog and mixed-signal circuit design skills.
• Hands-on hardware development experience in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with signal conditioning, sensors, electromechanical actuators, power switches, embedded computers, or similar hardware.
• Experience with FPGAs, microcontrollers, and communication interfaces including RS-485, SPI, Ethernet, or I2C.
• Experience leading engineers and collaborating across disciplines.
• Knowledge of C, C++, or Python, radiation effects, and environmental testing.
