Scientist, Biologics Formulation (Biotechnology)

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. Employment is limited to U.S. persons authorized to access export-controlled technology.

Salary: $100,000–$140,000 per year, plus potential stock options and/or long-term cash awards.

What you will do

• Execute and optimize protein formulation experiments for liquid and solid dosage forms, including excipient screening, pH optimization, and stability assessment.
• Prepare and characterize high-concentration protein formulations using DLS, DSF, CE, spectroscopy, and related techniques.
• Develop, optimize, validate, and maintain automated liquid-handling workflows for high-throughput formulation screening.
• Design plate-based experiments and troubleshoot automation equipment and workflow issues.
• Organize, analyze, and visualize large datasets from high-throughput experiments.
• Document experiments and contribute to technical reports, SOPs, and regulatory documentation.

Requirements

• PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomaterials, Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Hands-on experience with protein formulation and characterization techniques.
• Strong foundation in protein chemistry and physical biochemistry.
• Proficiency with Excel, GraphPad Prism, Python, R, or comparable data analysis tools.
• Experience with electronic laboratory notebooks and structured data management.
• Strong independent working, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

• Industry experience in biopharmaceutical formulation development.
• Experience with Tecan, Hamilton, Beckman, or other liquid-handling automation platforms.
• Familiarity with protein crystallization, lyophilization, spray drying, or other solid-state processing methods.
• Experience in startup or fast-paced R&D environments.
• Programming experience with Python, MATLAB, or similar tools for data analysis and visualization.
