Senior Scientist (NGS)

Location: Onsite in South San Francisco, California, United States

Salary: $150,000–$170,000 USD annually

What you will do

• Lead development, verification, and transfer of NGS-based minimal residual disease (MRD) assays into clinical laboratory operations.
• Develop automated, high-throughput workflows with QC, throughput, and LIMS integration requirements.
• Design and execute feasibility, optimization, and verification studies focused on sensitivity, robustness, scalability, and operational readiness.
• Author and review protocols, SOPs, reports, risk assessments, requirements, and design control documentation.
• Provide subject-matter expertise in NGS, oncology genomics, ctDNA, and MRD technologies while troubleshooting complex technical issues.
• Collaborate with Bioinformatics, Data Science, Operations, Clinical Laboratory, Automation, Software/LIMS, Quality, and Regulatory teams; mentor laboratory personnel and junior scientists.

Requirements

• PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or a related field.
• 6–7 years of postdoctoral and relevant industry experience in NGS wet-lab experimentation.
• Extensive experience developing NGS-based assays for clinical, diagnostic, or regulated applications, including library preparation and blood, tissue, or FFPE samples.
• Experience with automation, high-throughput workflow development, and LDT product development under design control and quality systems such as CAP/CLIA and NYSDOH.
• Strong NGS data analysis, interpretation, and visualization skills using JMP, R, and Python.
• Ability to independently lead complex technical projects, troubleshoot molecular assays, and mentor other scientists.

• Direct experience developing MRD or liquid biopsy diagnostics.
