Manager, Crystallization Science

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States

Salary: $160,000–$190,000 per year, plus potential stock options and/or long-term cash awards.

What you will do

• Lead the crystallization screening and characterization team for microgravity pharmaceutical opportunities.
• Oversee screening across small molecules, biologics, and other drug substance modalities.
• Advance microgravity crystallization science and adopt automation technologies to accelerate development timelines.
• Manage collaborations with external partners, CROs, and vendors.
• Coordinate research and development activities, budgets, project organization, and delivery timelines.
• Manage interfaces across pharmaceutical development groups and provide technical direction.

Requirements

• Ph.D. with 4+ years of relevant industry experience, or M.S. with 8+ years of relevant industry experience, in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience with polymorph screening of small molecules or crystallization of biologics.
• Strong foundation in materials science, organic chemistry, protein chemistry, and/or physical biochemistry.
• Technical expertise in at least one drug substance development area, such as analytical science, crystallization, process engineering, or drug product development.
• Experience with data analysis tools such as Excel, GraphPad Prism, Python, or R, plus external partnership and project management experience.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States and qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR requirements.

Nice to have

• Ph.D. with 8+ years, or M.S. with 12+ years, of relevant industry experience.
• Experience in crystallography and analytical techniques including XRPD, TGA, DSC, ED, or cryo-EM.
• At least 2 years of people-management experience.
• Peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, new technology development, quality by design, or statistical process engineering experience.
