TL;DR
Mechanisms & Payload Internship - Spring 2027 (Aerospace): Designing, building, testing, and operating electromechanical spacecraft and payload hardware with an accent on mechanical CAD, programming, fabrication, and test campaigns. Focus on developing flight mechanisms, microgravity manufacturing payloads, hosted payloads, and custom test equipment through full-cycle design, analysis, build, and test work.

Location: Full-time, on-site internship in Los Angeles, CA; company headquarters and production facility in El Segundo, California. Spring internships run from January through May, with dates depending on the selected student’s university schedule.

Hourly rate: $33.00. Housing stipend is available for interns relocating to the area.

hirify.global develops commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing payloads, reentry capsules, heat shields, and satellite buses.

What you will do

  • Contribute to hardware or software design for spacecraft and payload development.
  • Design, build, and operate electromechanical hardware such as motors, sensors, linkages, gearboxes, and solenoids.
  • Create and support test campaigns, including building test stands.
  • Perform analysis supporting hardware development and testing.
  • Work on projects involving flight mechanisms, microgravity pharmaceutical manufacturing payloads, hosted payloads, or custom test equipment.
  • Contribute to full-cycle design, analysis, build, test, and flight activities.

Requirements

  • Experience with mechanical CAD; NX experience is preferred.
  • Experience designing, building, or operating electromechanical hardware.
  • Basic programming skills in at least one language; Python is preferred.
  • Comfort using common hand tools and interest in learning to use machine tools such as drill presses, lathes, and mills.
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a similar engineering discipline.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and qualify as a U.S. person for access to export-controlled technology.

Nice to have

  • Previous internship or co-op experience.
  • Experience on technical project teams such as rocketry clubs or Formula SAE.
