Materials Scientist – ALD Coating Technology

Location: Santa Clara, California, United States. Travel required up to 25% of the time. Relocation eligible.

Salary: $124,000–$171,000 per year, plus potential bonus and stock awards.

What you will do

• Develop and productize ALD coatings for hardware components and chamber materials.
• Drive projects from ideation and development through commercialization and customer ramp.
• Design experiments, collect and analyze data, characterize hardware, and compile technical reports.
• Develop material measurement and analytical methods and train engineers in their use.
• Troubleshoot complex materials engineering issues and resolve customer High Value Problems.
• Collaborate with engineering, productivity, supply chain, operations, business units, suppliers, customers, and senior leadership.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience, or equivalent, in ALD coatings and related hardware development.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; a master’s degree or PhD is preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of ALD metal, oxide, or fluoride coatings, materials properties, and manufacturing methods.
• Experience with surface chemistry and material interactions in chemical and plasma environments relevant to semiconductor processes.
• Significant experience with material characterization methods; failure analysis experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong problem-solving, systems-thinking, project leadership, communication, and technical decision-making skills.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering or a related field.
• Experience with failure analysis of materials.
