Principal Materials Engineer (Medical Devices)

Location: Mounds View, Minnesota, United States; onsite a minimum of 4 days per week. Travel is less than 10%.

Salary: $135,200–$202,800 per year, plus eligibility for the hirify.global Incentive Plan.

What you will do

• Select, process, characterize, and analyze metallic, magnetic, ceramic, glass, and interface materials for medical devices.
• Support released-product reliability and improvement initiatives by identifying and mitigating materials, design, and process risks.
• Perform laboratory investigations, data analysis, failure analysis, and materials-stability and biostability assessments.
• Develop evaluation plans and technical strategies that address knowledge gaps and support product quality, cost, performance, and patient safety.
• Contribute technical expertise to cross-functional projects and mentor less experienced personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with at least 7 years of relevant experience, master's degree with at least 5 years, or PhD with at least 3 years.
• Expertise in metallurgical science, including metals physics, chemistry, processing, and characterization.
• Knowledge of magnetic physics, electrochemistry, corrosion, material stability, and biomaterials challenges.
• Experience with regulated medical-device environments, external standards such as ASTM and ISO, and failure-mode analysis.
• Knowledge of Design, Reliability & Manufacturability, Six Sigma, statistical methods, and Design of Experiments.
• U.S. work authorization is required; sponsorship is available for Principal-level roles and above.
