Senior Specialist, Mechanical Engineer – Design (Aerospace)

Location: On-site in Huntsville, Alabama, or Sacramento, California. Travel up to 25%. Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance is required; security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens.

Salary: $102,000–$189,000 per year in California. Final compensation may vary based on experience and geographic location.

What you will do

• Lead component and system design for solid rocket motors and controllable solid propulsion systems.
• Develop design concepts, 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings, component specifications, and procedures.
• Design or support composite cases, hot gas thrusters, insulation systems, manifolds, ignition systems, pressure vessels, and test hardware.
• Conduct trade studies, tolerance studies, engineering analyses, technical reviews, and failure investigations.
• Coordinate with analysis, manufacturing, project engineering, quality, customer support, and supply chain teams.
• Support production hardware processing, nonconformance resolution, configuration change boards, test planning, and qualification testing.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 6 years of mechanical design experience; or a graduate degree and at least 4 years of experience; or 10 years of experience without a degree.
• Working knowledge of mechanical design concepts, practices, and techniques.
• Experience planning and executing complex design tasks with general oversight.
• Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance; security clearance eligibility is limited to U.S. citizens.
• Ability to work on-site in Huntsville, Alabama, or Sacramento, California, and travel up to 25%.

Nice to have

• Experience with Creo CAD software and Windchill PLM systems.
• Familiarity with ASME Y14.5.
• Experience with solid rocket motors.
• Knowledge of solid propulsion system design and manufacturing methods.
