Lead Software Engineer (Java)

Location: Glendale, California, United States

Salary: $155,700–$208,700 per year, plus potential bonus, long-term incentives, and benefits.

What you will do

• Own backend Java services end to end, from design and implementation through testing, launch, monitoring, and performance optimization.
• Design, develop, debug, and maintain software components, applications, and scalable cloud-based systems.
• Lead code reviews, establish engineering standards, and provide technical direction and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Collaborate with senior engineers, product owners, technical program managers, users, and business units to define and deliver product requirements.
• Lead sophisticated software projects, including estimation, planning, infrastructure support, and technology platform initiatives.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to application quality, scalability, and stability.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of backend development or software engineering experience in a large enterprise environment.
• Strong experience with Java, Docker, Spring Framework, design patterns, data structures, and agile delivery.
• Experience designing and implementing AWS managed services, including ECS, S3, Lambda, and RDS.
• Experience with relational databases and NoSQL data stores.
• Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or a comparable field, or equivalent work experience.
• Strong communication, collaboration, mentoring, testing, debugging, and software delivery skills.

Nice to have

• Performance testing and application profiling experience.
• Experience with AI tools such as RAG, Cursor, GitHub MCP, and MariaDB MCP.
• Knowledge of AWS services including EC2, Fargate, DynamoDB, Kinesis, Elasticsearch, MariaDB/MySQL, and developer tools.
• Experience with JUnit, GitLab, GitHub, GitHub Copilot, Firebase Test Lab, or Sauce Labs Test Cloud.
