Staff Engineer - Capacity Planning and Management (Cloud Infrastructure)

Location: Bethesda, MD, United States. Workplace flexibility includes working from anywhere in the US for up to four weeks per year through the hirify.global Flex program.

Annual salary: $110,000–$230,000.

What you will do

• Design and implement cloud and on-premise capacity forecasting systems for application onboarding, expansion, and workload repatriation.
• Analyze workload characteristics and optimize placement decisions to reduce infrastructure waste.
• Build internal tools and APIs that deliver real-time and forecasted capacity signals to procurement, infrastructure, and finance teams.
• Develop quota and subscription management solutions for shared infrastructure resources.
• Define data-driven signals for hardware purchasing and service-provider onboarding.
• Establish governance practices for capacity consumption, allocation, scaling, cost efficiency, and operational resilience while mentoring engineers.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in infrastructure, platform, or capacity engineering in large-scale enterprise or hybrid cloud environments.
• Experience building capacity planning models, workload analysis frameworks, and infrastructure forecasting pipelines.
• Strong understanding of AWS or Azure, infrastructure provisioning workflows, and on-premise hardware life cycles.
• Experience partnering with procurement, hardware, finance, or FinOps teams on demand-based infrastructure acquisition.
• Experience with workload repatriation, application migration, hybrid environment management, and internal tools or APIs.
• Strong data analysis, collaboration, communication, and stakeholder-influence skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with FinOps, cloud cost optimization, or cloud spend forecasting.
• Familiarity with enterprise quota management, subscription modeling, infrastructure telemetry, or service ownership models.
• Experience supporting hardware procurement or platform growth strategies in a regulated environment.
