Head of Software (Aerospace)

Location: Torrance, California, United States. Eligibility to work with U.S. ITAR-regulated space technology is required: U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected individual status, or eligibility to obtain the required authorizations.

Salary: $225,000–$300,000 per year, plus equity, discretionary performance bonuses, and benefits.

What you will do

• Own the architecture and technical direction of the core software stack, including backend APIs, infrastructure, and networking.
• Plan, prioritize, and deliver complex software projects in collaboration with hardware and operations teams.
• Lead, mentor, and grow a software team across backend and infrastructure domains.
• Build engineering foundations for tooling, CI/CD, deployment, and operational processes.
• Ensure production systems are scalable, reliable, secure, and observable.
• Stay hands-on by designing, debugging, and delivering critical systems.

Requirements

• 7–10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including ownership of production systems.
• Demonstrated experience leading teams and delivering complex, mission-critical software.
• Strong experience with backend systems and infrastructure.
• Must meet U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements for regulated space technology.

Nice to have

• Startup or aerospace experience.
• Experience with mission-critical systems, Linux internals, networking, or distributed systems.
• Experience with C/C++ or Rust.
• Embedded engineering experience and leadership in that domain.
