Sr Field Underwriter, Commercial Lines (P&C Small Commercial Insurance)

Location: Work from home within the Tennessee territory, covering all of Tennessee and possibly parts of Kentucky, with approximately 50–60% travel to agency partners and customer business locations. Preferably based in or near Nashville. The successful candidate must live within the assigned territory.

Salary: Expected starting range of $84,000–$126,000 annually; national range of $84,000–$156,000 annually.

What you will do

• Generate new, profitable commercial lines business from agencies within the assigned territory.
• Accept, reject, modify, classify, and price new business within delegated authority and underwriting guidelines.
• Evaluate complex risk exposures using applications, motor vehicle records, financial reports, and loss control reports.
• Conduct field inspections, gather competitive data, prepare reports, and recommend risk actions.
• Build agency relationships through regular visits, product orientations, and collaboration with sales managers.
• Serve as an underwriting resource by coaching team members and supporting regional profit, growth, and service objectives.

Requirements

• Must live within the assigned Tennessee territory; regular field travel and a safe driving record are required.
• At least 3 years of multi-line commercial insurance underwriting experience with authority; the job requirements also specify 4–6 years of commercial underwriting and/or portfolio management experience.
• Advanced knowledge of commercial underwriting practices, policies, agency operations, loss control, and risk management.
• Strong production and agency management orientation, sales skills, presentation ability, and written and oral communication skills.
• Undergraduate degree preferred; technical insurance coursework such as CPCU is highly desirable.
• Employer-sponsored work authorization is not available, and the role does not qualify for the STEM OPT Extension program.

Nice to have

• Prior field underwriting or territory management experience.
• Agency or brokerage experience.
• Insurance designations such as CPCU, CIC, or AU, or coursework toward them.
