Sr Field Underwriter, Commercial Lines (P&C Small Commercial Insurance)

Location: Work from home within the Tennessee territory, which includes all of Tennessee and possibly areas of Kentucky; preferably based in or near Nashville. The role requires approximately 50–60% travel to agency partners, service centers, agency offices, and customer business locations.

Salary: $84,000–$156,000 annually. Expected starting salary: $84,000–$126,000.

What you will do

• Generate new, profitable commercial lines business from agencies in the assigned territory.
• Accept, reject, modify, price, quote, and issue new business within delegated underwriting authority and company guidelines.
• Evaluate complex risk exposures using applications, motor vehicle records, financial reports, loss control reports, and policy documentation.
• Conduct field inspections, assess agency potential, gather competitive data, and prepare reports and recommendations.
• Maintain frequent visits with assigned agencies and build productive relationships with agency owners, employees, and partners.
• Support sales managers, provide underwriting expertise, and coach or train other field underwriters.

Requirements

• Must live within the assigned Tennessee territory.
• At least 3 years of multi-line commercial insurance underwriting experience with authority; the detailed requirements indicate 4–6 years of commercial underwriting and/or portfolio management experience.
• Advanced knowledge of commercial underwriting practices, procedures, policies, agency operations, loss control, and risk management.
• Strong production, sales, presentation, oral communication, written communication, and agency management skills.
• Undergraduate degree preferred; CPCU or related technical insurance coursework is highly desirable.
• Must travel regularly in the field and maintain a safe driving record.

Nice to have

• Prior field underwriting or territory management experience.
• Agency or brokerage experience.
• Insurance designations such as CPCU, CIC, or AU, or coursework toward them.
