Reinsurance Underwriter, Public Entity

Location: New York, NY; hybrid work with a minimum of 3 days per week in an hirify.global field office. The role requires up to 20% travel across the United States for conferences and client meetings.

Base salary: $100,000–$130,000 annually, depending on education, experience, qualifications, and work location.

What you will do

• Underwrite and manage an assigned nationwide portfolio of Public Entity business.
• Review insurance submissions and develop proposals, terms, and conditions using market, litigation, state immunity, and tort law analysis.
• Execute underwriting strategies that balance risk management, profitable growth, pricing discipline, and business objectives.
• Build and maintain relationships with brokers, clients, and external trading partners through meetings and market engagement.
• Coordinate with loss control, claims, actuarial, and other internal specialists to evaluate unique account circumstances.
• Track key performance metrics and contribute to product, strategy, and profitability improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 3–5 years of insurance industry experience, including preferably at least 1 year in Public Entity business.
• Proven ability to generate profitable new business and deliver meaningful underwriting profit.
• Strong negotiation, decision-making, analytical, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.
• Strong proficiency in Word, Excel, and relevant proprietary software and tools.
• Ability to work collaboratively with peers and explain underwriting processes and decisions.
• Ability to work in an hirify.global field office at least 3 days per week and travel up to 20% across the United States.
