Mental Health Specialist II (Acute Behavioral Services)

Location: Nashwauk, Minnesota, USA

Salary: Up to $24 per hour

Provides person-centered support services for people with intellectual or developmental disabilities, complex medical needs, and intensive behavioral support requirements.

What you will do

• Provide direct, person-centered support to individuals with intensive mental health and behavioral needs.
• Follow behavior support plans, treatment plans, crisis-prevention strategies, de-escalation procedures, and trained manual restraint protocols.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and structured home environment while supporting daily living skills, activities, transportation, and community engagement.
• Document services, behavioral observations, health concerns, and program activities in electronic systems including T-logs, Therap, and health tracking tools.
• Monitor behavioral changes, identify escalation indicators, and communicate with supervisors and team members during crisis and safety situations.
• Support appointments, personal contacts, medication administration tasks where permitted, medical and nutrition plans, team meetings, and new-staff training.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 3 years of experience working with individuals with chronic and severe mental illness, or a degree in a mental-health-related field.
• At least 18 years of age; some programs require employees to be 21 or older.
• Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.
• Basic computer skills and ability to use electronic documentation systems.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand and walk for extended periods, and safely manage physically demanding situations.
