Senior Vehicle Structures Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Hybrid role based in Mountain View, California or Novi, Michigan. Travel: 10% domestic and international.

Salary: $198,000–$248,000 USD base salary annually, plus eligibility for annual bonus, equity incentives, and company benefits.

What you will do

• Guide the development of vehicle body structures using cold stamping, hot stamping, casting, and hydroforming.
• Create layouts, master sections, and package studies in 3D CAD using Catia V6.
• Recommend materials and work with the in-house CAE team to validate structural requirements.
• Present design and manufacturing solutions while balancing piece price and tooling investment.
• Collaborate with internal teams to identify potential component suppliers from a global supply base.

Requirements

• Experience in vehicle manufacturers or Tier 1 suppliers in product development or engineering.
• In-depth knowledge of tooling strategies for vehicle body structure components.
• Experience launching multiple cars and solving production ramp and launch issues.
• Experience working with suppliers through design for manufacturing during tooling launches.
• Understanding of vehicle body assembly strategies and component sequencing.
• At least 6 years of experience in body structure development.

Nice to have

• Experience owning vehicle areas from concept through launch as a strong individual contributor.
• Experience creating production-ready 3D and 2D CAD, ideally with Catia V5 or V6.
• Experience using benchmark or competitor vehicles to guide engineering discussions.
