Staff Engineer (Data Platform)

What you will do

• Define the technical strategy and roadmap for the Developer Activity Metrics platform.
• Design data models and govern schemas so metrics are consistently defined and reproducible.
• Build data quality, reconciliation, validation, and drift-detection processes for reliable metrics.
• Integrate AI spend, DORA, ADO work item, pull request, and incident data into coherent datasets.
• Architect and deliver REST and/or GraphQL APIs for dashboards, engineering teams, and downstream tools.
• Maintain monitoring, alerting, operational runbooks, and mentor engineers on design and data engineering practices.

Requirements

• Fluency in Go and Python, with strong SQL and relational database experience; PostgreSQL is preferred.
• Experience designing and operating large-scale ETL/ELT pipelines, including schema management, backfills, and upstream data changes.
• Strong API design experience, including versioning and schema governance.
• Knowledge of cloud architecture, Kubernetes, observability, infrastructure automation, Ansible, and Terraform.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 8+ years in architecture and system design and 4+ years with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with NoSQL and graph databases.
• Experience with developer productivity metrics, engineering analytics, or DORA metrics.
• Experience building or owning an enterprise-scale metrics, analytics, or data platform product.
