Senior Data Engineer (Databricks/Azure)

What you will do

• Lead migration efforts from on-premises infrastructure to cloud-based solutions.
• Lead data platform engineering work with security and analytics stakeholders to ensure compliant workspace operations.
• Build and configure Databricks workspaces in PreProd (live data) or Prod, including service principals, personas, access controls, and security settings.
• Create and manage linked services, mount points, and integrations between Databricks and the VHA Data Lake.
• Develop and maintain Databricks catalogs for governed data discovery and access.
• Troubleshoot user issues across data access, workspace configuration, pipelines, cataloging, and permissions; monitor performance and recommend improvements.

Requirements

• Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a suitability/Public Trust.
• Bachelor’s degree plus 12 years of experience in Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (or commensurate experience).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Expertise with Azure or other major cloud platforms.
• Proficiency in data engineering fundamentals: ETL/ELT, data modeling, and structured/unstructured datasets.
• Ability to automate provisioning workflows and infrastructure using scripting or infrastructure-as-code (Python, PowerShell, Bash, Terraform, ARM, or Bicep).
