Senior Director of Spacecraft Components (Aerospace)

Location: Hybrid role split between San Jose and Mountain View, California, with regular onsite days at both locations. Access to export-controlled information requires the applicant to be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible under U.S. export regulations.

Salary: $233,000–$262,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the multidisciplinary Spacecraft Components organization across Electronics & Embedded, Modules & Mechanisms, and Solar & Deployables.
• Architect, design, qualify, and deliver spacecraft electronics, RF systems, integrated modules, mechanisms, solar arrays, and deployable systems.
• Own component roadmaps, balancing concurrent mission requirements while driving standardization and reuse across spacecraft platforms.
• Define component-level design, analysis, qualification, and electrical test strategies in partnership with Hardware Reliability & Test.
• Collaborate with Product, Business Development, Systems Engineering, Software, Operations, Production, and Supply Chain on mission requirements, proposals, cost models, manufacturability, and production scale-up.
• Manage budgets, schedules, delivery milestones, and the development of managers and engineering teams.

Requirements

• 15+ years designing or managing complex, high-reliability systems for harsh environments, such as spacecraft, autonomous vehicles, or drones.
• 8+ years of people management experience, including management of engineers and engineering managers.
• Strong technical foundation in electrical, embedded, and mechanical design and analysis.
• Experience designing and manufacturing low-volume, high-mix products efficiently.
• Experience managing complex engineering projects from concept through deployment, including budgets and schedules.
• B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

Nice to have

• Flight heritage delivering spaceflight avionics, mechanisms, solar arrays, or similar components.
• Experience establishing teams or reorganizing engineering organizations during rapid growth.
• Experience with vertically integrated hardware development from in-house design through scaled production.
• Experience with RF hardware, electrical test infrastructure, instrument development, or propulsion systems.
