Sr. Manager, Data Platform Engineering

Location: Boston, MA; hybrid work model with two core office days per week

Salary: $171,200–$228,200 annual base pay

What you will do

• Lead, hire, coach, and performance-manage platform, DevOps, integration engineers, and a Data Architect.
• Own the roadmap for a modern enterprise data platform and translate target architecture into sequenced capabilities, standards, and team plans.
• Build and operate platform environments, deployment patterns, orchestration, CI/CD, infrastructure automation, and self-service engineering templates.
• Develop reusable ingestion and integration frameworks for batch, replication, CDC, and APIs, including standards for schemas, data contracts, metadata, and lineage.
• Own reliability, observability, incident response, recovery, on-call practices, monitoring, alerting, cost visibility, and workload performance.
• Lead migration from the legacy platform, manage implementation-partner acceptance and knowledge transfer, and coordinate cutover and decommissioning.

Requirements

• 8+ years in data platform, data engineering, or infrastructure engineering, including 5+ years managing engineering teams.
• Experience building and operating a modern cloud lakehouse in production, using Databricks or a comparable platform.
• Experience running platform migrations while legacy environments remain in production, including parallel operation, reconciliation, cutover, and decommissioning.
• Experience leading external delivery partners or vendor engineering teams and bringing delivered capabilities in-house.
• Experience building reusable ingestion frameworks at scale across batch, replication, CDC, and APIs.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Databricks experience with Unity Catalog, Workflows/Jobs, and Delta/DLT.
• AWS data stack experience with S3 and Iceberg/Delta, plus Kafka streaming.
• Experience owning platform cost and performance budgets and replacing legacy platform components.
• Background in consumer products, hardware, technology, or subscription businesses.
