Engineering Manager for the Data Team (AI)

Location: San Francisco, California, United States; on-site

Salary: $215,000–$260,000 per year plus bonus and restricted stock units

What you will do

• Lead, manage, coach, and grow a team of data engineers through regular one-on-ones and career development.
• Define the long-term data platform vision and quarterly OKRs with Product, Data Science, and Cloud Leadership.
• Oversee scalable and maintainable data lake, data warehouse, and ETL architecture through technical design reviews.
• Drive CI/CD, data quality monitoring, observability, and incident management practices.
• Lead recruitment and build a diverse, high-performing engineering team.
• Partner with data stakeholders across the company to prioritize mission-critical initiatives.

Requirements

• 5+ years managing engineering teams and 7+ years in data engineering or software engineering.
• Strong experience with Python, SQL, Airflow or Dagster, BigQuery or Snowflake, Kafka, Flink, and GCP or AWS.
• Ability to lead in-depth technical discussions and oversee modern data platform architecture.
• Experience delivering complex, multi-quarter technical projects on schedule and to a high standard.
• Exceptional communication skills for translating technical challenges into business impact for stakeholders and executives.
• Experience building data-driven cultures supported by metrics and rigorous testing.

Nice to have

• Experience with bare metal, hyperscaler clouds, or GPU infrastructure.
• Familiarity with AI/ML data requirements or high-performance computing environments.
• Experience working at a high-growth startup.
