TL;DR
Engineering Manager, Runtime Platform, Robot Software (Embodied AI): Leading a team building the application frameworks, middleware, performance, monitoring, and observability foundations for Wayve's real-time on-vehicle AI Driver, with an accent on people leadership, delivery, and embedded systems direction. Focus on profiling, low-latency C++ software, real-time scheduling, IPC middleware, and enabling new vehicle platforms with robust CI and hardware-in-the-loop quality gates.
Location: London, United Kingdom. Full-time hybrid role based in the London office, combining office and workshop time with work from home.

What you will do
- Lead, coach, develop, and retain a high-performing Runtime Platform engineering team.
- Own hiring, onboarding, team structure, engagement, performance management, and career growth.
- Drive roadmap execution through planning, prioritization, resourcing, quality, and operational reliability.
- Set technical direction for system design, application frameworks, middleware and IPC, performance, optimization, monitoring, and observability.
- Guide runtime foundations for on-vehicle software and enable new vehicle platforms with minimal performance degradation.
- Collaborate with Vehicle Software, model development, hardware, and OEM program teams while resolving risks and dependencies.
Requirements
- Experience leading, hiring, coaching, and managing performance for a high-performing software or systems engineering team.
- Experience owning a team roadmap and delivering software through planning, prioritization, resourcing, and accountability.
- Hands-on technical depth architecting and delivering embedded software shipped to real customers.
- Strong knowledge of high-performance, low-latency embedded software in C++.
- Understanding of profiling, benchmarking, latency, throughput, memory-bandwidth analysis, and real-time scheduling on embedded Linux; QNX is beneficial.
- Strong understanding of high-throughput real-time or robotics middleware and the ability to lead through cross-functional influence.
Nice to have
- Experience in automotive, robotics, or another safety-relevant real-time domain.
- Familiarity with profiling tools such as pprof/gperftools, perf, Nsight, or NVLumo.
- Experience with OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Datadog, NVIDIA Orin/Thor, Qualcomm platforms, microkernels, or QNX.
