Senior Software Engineer (Java/Microservices)

Location: Must be based in the US (Hybrid roles in Columbia, MD; Boston, MA; or Bay Area, CA)

Salary: $137,500–$183,500 USD per year

What you will do

• Design and maintain scalable, cloud-native microservices for data ingestion, storage, and retrieval.
• Architect and implement core platform features to support a global cloud architecture.
• Optimize database performance, schema design, and query efficiency in distributed systems.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and cross-functional engineering teams.
• Mentor mid-level and junior engineers to raise the bar on technical execution and code quality.
• Ensure the reliability and performance of software services in production environments.

Requirements

• Must be based in the US with 4+ years of enterprise software development experience.
• Proficiency in Java or Kotlin and experience with distributed microservice architectures.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and containerized environments.
• Strong background in SQL/NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch).
• Experience with event-driven systems such as Kafka, SQS, or RabbitMQ.
• B.S. degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with cross-platform development.
• Prior experience in developing search engines or core infrastructure libraries.
