Director, Data Engineering (AI/ML)

What you will do

• Lead the technical evolution, optimization, rearchitecture, and scaling of a large-scale data platform.
• Act as solution architect for data engineering initiatives and personally design, prototype, and develop critical platform components.
• Build and maintain an AI/ML-ready data platform with reliable data models, governance, observability, and secure access.
• Evaluate and implement data platform tooling for storage, orchestration, compute, and streaming.
• Diagnose complex production issues and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and scalability challenges.
• Set technical direction, manage and mentor data engineers, and contribute to roadmap, prioritization, budgeting, and resource planning.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 10+ years of data engineering experience, including optimization and scaling of large-scale mature data platforms.
• 3+ years in an architecture role with direct ownership of solution designs.
• 3+ years managing data engineering teams with direct people-management responsibilities.
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake or Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics or Microsoft Fabric, and modern cloud data platforms and lakehouse architectures.
• Strong proficiency in at least two of Python, Scala, and SQL, plus experience with data governance, security, compliance, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD.

Nice to have

• Experience designing or implementing agentic workflows for data engineering.
• Experience with Property & Casualty insurance carriers.
• Experience with Data Vault 2.0 or Ensemble data modeling.
