TL;DR
Press/Automation Engineer (Automotive): Designing, integrating, validating, and optimizing press and automation systems for stamping facilities with an accent on mechanical systems, manufacturing methods, and cross-functional engineering. Location: Hybrid in Warren, Michigan; onsite at least 3 days per week, with regular travel to manufacturing sites in North America.

What you will do

  • Specify, procure, develop, integrate, and validate press and automation systems for stamping plants.
  • Perform complex design analysis of mechanical systems and evaluate system performance, accuracy, reliability, and speed.
  • Coordinate with controls engineering, IT, suppliers, plant personnel, and other cross-functional partners to define requirements and deliver engineering projects.
  • Lead root cause analysis, corrective actions, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement for press and automation equipment.
  • Support production staff training and maintain documentation for machine, equipment, and system design and implementation.
  • Provide technical direction to engineers and engineering support personnel and contribute to cost reduction and manufacturing improvements.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience developing and maintaining manufacturing machinery and equipment, preferably press and automation systems in stamping.
  • Knowledge of mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical mechanisms, engineering theory, and manufacturing methods.
  • Experience coordinating design and construction activities, preferably in automotive manufacturing facilities.
  • Experience with project management methodologies, budgets, production schedules, and OEM counterparts.
  • Experience with Microsoft software, including MS Project, and CAD systems such as AutoCAD, Unigraphics, SOLIDWORKS, or Teamcenter.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, computer, manufacturing systems engineering, or computer science, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

  • 5+ years of experience with machinery and equipment in stamping, body shop, or general assembly operations.
  • Hands-on experience developing, operating, and troubleshooting press and automation equipment or industrial machinery.
  • Experience with Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps, Copilot, or LLMs in engineering workflows.
  • 2–5 years of experience in VR development, simulation, or interactive 3D applications.
  • Master’s degree or related STEM experience.
