TL;DR
Data, AI & Security Lawyer (Data Privacy/Cybersecurity): Advising BT on data protection, cybersecurity, investigatory powers, AI, ethics, and commercial matters with an accent on GDPR, DPA 2018, PECR, and security-by-design. Focus on drafting complex data and security contract provisions, conducting escalated DPIAs and PIAs, and supporting cybersecurity transformation and incident response.
Location: London, UK; at least 3 days a week onsite

What you will do
- Advise on data protection, cybersecurity, investigatory powers, AI, ethics, human rights, and related commercial matters.
- Provide practical legal analysis aligned with BT’s commercial strategy and the evolving legal environment.
- Advise on new products and services, embedding privacy and security by design across the Group.
- Monitor legislative changes and update policies and legal precedents across business units.
- Draft and negotiate complex data protection and security provisions in supplier, customer, and partner agreements.
- Lead complex privacy and data protection impact assessments and support cybersecurity transformation and remediation projects.
Requirements
- Post-qualification experience in data privacy and/or cybersecurity; NQ+ candidates may be considered.
- In-depth knowledge of the DPA 2018, GDPR, PECR, and national and European data protection laws.
- Ability to provide clear, concise, practical advice and influence senior stakeholders.
- Strong commercial awareness, problem-solving, organisation, and prioritisation skills.
- Eligibility and willingness to obtain UK Government Developed Vetting clearance is required.
Nice to have
- Experience with the Telecommunications (Security) Act 2021, NIS Regulations 2018, NIS 2, or DORA.
- Knowledge of the Investigatory Powers Act 2016.
- Experience advising on data and security incident response.
- CIPP/E, CIPM, AIGP, or equivalent certification.
- Existing UK Government Developed Vetting clearance.
