General Counsel - Head of Legal and Risk

Location: Hybrid role based in Scotland, United Kingdom, with attendance at the Dundee office at least once every fortnight.

What you will do

• Lead and develop the global Legal & Risk function and manage legal budgets and external counsel relationships.
• Advise the Executive Team, Board, governance committees, and senior stakeholders on legal, governance, compliance, and risk matters.
• Build and embed enterprise risk management frameworks, governance structures, and compliance practices.
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, licensing agreements, and strategic partnerships.
• Protect, commercialise, and expand the intellectual property portfolio across international markets.
• Oversee disputes, litigation, regulatory developments, acquisitions, and other strategic business initiatives.

Requirements

• UK solicitor qualification required.
• Extensive post-qualification experience in private practice, in-house legal work, or both.
• Experience leading legal teams and developing legal capability.
• Expertise in commercial contracts, corporate governance, intellectual property, and risk management.
• Ability to advise senior stakeholders on complex strategic matters and make balanced, risk-based decisions.
• Experience in international and multicultural environments, with strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with intellectual property licensing, trademarks, patents, and copyright.
• Knowledge of data protection and privacy legislation.
• Experience with mergers and acquisitions, AML compliance, or enterprise risk management frameworks.
