In-House Lawyer (AI)

Location: Hybrid at the London, UK hub; applicants must have legal authorization to work in the United Kingdom.

What you will do

• Build and own the legal function as the first in-house lawyer.
• Manage the AGPL-3.0 and Enterprise licensing model, including violation detection, outreach, enforcement, and license negotiations.
• Draft and negotiate SaaS, technology licensing, distribution, partnership, vendor, and enterprise license agreements.
• Manage the IP portfolio covering trademarks, copyright, trade secrets, filings, and renewals with external counsel.
• Advise on GDPR, data processing agreements, international data transfers, AI governance, and regulatory compliance.
• Establish contract templates, playbooks, approval workflows, matter management, and legal reporting systems.

Requirements

• UK-qualified solicitor or equivalent with experience across multiple jurisdictions.
• Hands-on experience negotiating or enforcing copyleft and open-source licenses, including AGPL, GPL, or similar models.
• Experience converting unauthorized commercial use into paying licensing customers.
• Independent experience drafting and negotiating SaaS, technology licensing, distribution, and other commercial agreements.
• Ability to operate as the sole in-house lawyer and build a legal function from scratch.
• Working knowledge of GDPR, data processing agreements, and cross-border data transfers; legal authorization to work in the UK is required.

Nice to have

• In-house experience at an AI, computer vision, or open-source software company.
• Familiarity with hirify.global, YOLO, or comparable dual-licensed projects.
• Experience with SCA tooling, SPDX, SBOMs, or license-scanning tools.
• Experience with AI governance, emerging technology regulation, or software IP enforcement.
• Spanish, Mandarin, or another relevant language.
