Software Engineer - Platform Metal | UK | Remote

Location: Remote; candidates must be based in the UK, Spain, or Ireland

Salary: £72,177–£86,612 annually, plus Restricted Stock Units (RSUs)

What you will do

• Manage the physical Metal environment from bare metal through Kubernetes.
• Build and operate cluster networking components, including load balancing, NAT, DNS, CNIs, cross-cluster communication, routing protocols, and network architecture.
• Manage Kubernetes scheduling and autoscaling.
• Maintain Crossplane compositions and Terraform modules for cloud-service-provider resources, including versioning and compatibility across core tools and providers.
• Work with Grafana Cloud application teams to understand their needs and prioritize platform capabilities.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and operate the software built by the platform team.

Requirements

• Experience with datacenter environments and operating software in production.
• Experience with distributed systems and a holistic software lifecycle, including design documentation, developer feedback, and integration testing.
• Programming experience with Go, Python, and Shell.
• Experience working with engineers and management in a remote-first, collaborative environment.
• Availability for participation in an on-call rotation.

Nice to have

• Experience with Cluster API, Tinkerbell, Talos, or Ceph.
• Open-source or community-based project experience.
• Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure and managed Kubernetes services such as EKS, GKE, or AKS.
• Experience operating Kubernetes workloads, including Tanka, Jsonnet, Karpenter, Terraform, or Crossplane.
• Enjoyment of building Go-based tools, utilities, and exporters.
