Data Governance Lead (Fintech)

What you will do

• Evolve the data governance framework by defining standards and procedures for data definition, classification, and access.
• Identify data owners, clarify responsibilities, and coordinate governance activities across the business.
• Lead data governance councils or working groups, resolve policy disputes, and prioritise initiatives.
• Define data quality rules and KPIs, oversee assessments, and drive remediation with data-owning teams.
• Maintain business glossaries and data dictionaries and help implement and administer governance tooling.
• Oversee data classification and access controls, support audits and risk assessments, and promote data literacy.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of data governance experience in a regulated environment, preferably UK financial services.
• Strong knowledge of UK GDPR and applicable data protection regulations.
• Knowledge of DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM, or DGI frameworks and experience designing processes within an established governance operating model.
• Experience defining data quality metrics, conducting assessments, and implementing remediation processes.
• Technical understanding of databases, data warehouses or lakes, and data pipelines.
• Strong stakeholder communication skills and experience running governance programmes, tracking KPIs, managing timelines, and reporting progress.

Nice to have

• Experience with Collibra, Purview, Alation, or similar data governance and catalogue tooling.
• Professional data management certification such as CDMP.
• Experience with data governance in AI or ML contexts.
