Senior Network Tooling Engineer (Python)

Location: Birmingham, United Kingdom; hybrid 3 days at the contractual location and 2 flexible days per week

What you will do

• Support and enhance monitoring, automation tooling, networks, and lab environments across the HMRC estate.
• Configure, deploy, and manage virtualised environments, including VMware vCenter.
• Build network simulations using EVE-NG and CML for testing and continuous improvement.
• Lead technical investigations, oversee changes, and support the transition of new services into live operations.
• Collaborate with HMRC and supplier teams to improve service quality and align with technical standards and policies.

Requirements

• Experience supporting and configuring network monitoring and automation tooling such as Netscout, Riverbed, or similar platforms.
• Strong network troubleshooting and packet analysis experience across LAN, WAN, VLAN, and WLAN environments.
• Experience with scripting and automation using Python, PowerShell, or similar technologies.
• Exposure to CI/CD and tools such as Ansible or GitLab.
• Knowledge of virtualised infrastructure, including VMware, Hyper-V, Active Directory, or SQL/Oracle databases.
• Must be eligible for and able to obtain and maintain SC UK Government Security Clearance.
