Principal Data Architect (Databricks)

Location: Mexico; 100% remote work with up to 25% travel depending on business needs.

What you will do

• Define client Databricks adoption roadmaps, platform guardrails, self-service maturity models, and use-case prioritization approaches.
• Embed with client business and engineering teams to implement high-priority data, analytics, AI, and machine learning use cases.
• Translate delivery needs into platform feature requests, governance standards, and guardrail requirements.
• Shape pre-sales and scoping activities as a data engineering subject-matter expert.
• Coach client architects, engineers, and business-embedded technologists on Databricks patterns and self-service tooling.
• Develop data standards, operating procedures, semantic layers, and lineage capabilities while mentoring architects and engineers.

Requirements

• 10 years of experience designing and building complex data systems.
• 5+ years of deep, hands-on Databricks experience and at least 4 years in the AWS data landscape.
• Expertise in Databricks workspace and persona architecture, Unity Catalog, lakehouse patterns, orchestration, governance, and AI/ML tooling.
• Experience with relational databases, transactional and analytical data modeling, BI, data governance, MDM, Spark, streaming, NoSQL, machine learning, MLOps, GenAI foundation models, and DataOps.
• Experience with at least two of Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, and Python for analytics or automation; Terraform is preferred.
• Strong communication, documentation, business acumen, ambiguity tolerance, and forward-deployed delivery experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with platform-and-use-case hub-and-spoke delivery models.
• Background in consulting, systems integration, or professional services.
• Familiarity with SOW-based, time-and-materials delivery and scope management.
