Senior Principal Data Architect (Databricks)

Location: Remote, Ontario, Canada

Salary: USD 170,000–180,000 annually, with potential additional bonuses, commissions, equity, or other incentives.

What you will do

• Define and maintain enterprise data architecture strategies for data acquisition, archiving, recovery, and database implementation.
• Design scalable and secure data models, data flows, integration patterns, and pipelines across AWS and the Databricks Lakehouse ecosystem.
• Establish data governance, metadata management, data dictionaries, quality standards, and regulatory compliance practices.
• Lead architecture efforts for large-scale projects and digital transformations while remaining hands-on with data models and pipelines.
• Evaluate AWS-native and Databricks technologies, including Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and Databricks SQL.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor data engineers, and coordinate contractors and third-party resources.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in data engineering or data architecture.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python, with experience translating complex requirements into efficient code and data models.
• Deep hands-on experience with Databricks Lakehouse, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Databricks SQL, and modern modeling approaches such as dimensional modeling, Data Vault, or Kimball.
• Extensive AWS experience, including S3, EMR, EKS, Glue, Redshift, and Lambda, plus pipeline orchestration with Databricks Workflows, AWS Glue, and/or Apache Airflow.
• Ability to work effectively with a remote team across multiple time zones, lead technical decisions, communicate with stakeholders, and mentor data engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience building dashboards with Databricks SQL and/or Power BI.
• Knowledge of data mining and segmentation techniques.
• Experience applying generative AI tools to data modeling, coding, and documentation.
