Java Engineer (AI)

Location: Onsite in Austin, TX or Southlake, TX, United States

Salary: USD $126,000–$142,000 per year, plus eligibility for bonus or incentive opportunities.

What you will do

• Build and ship features for the Schwab Customer Identifier, a unified identity layer across Schwab affiliates.
• Develop Java and Spring applications with RESTful web services.
• Design solutions using distributed or NoSQL databases and cloud platforms.
• Use AI-assisted workflows for code generation, test creation, troubleshooting, and development acceleration while reviewing and validating all code.
• Modernize legacy processes, improve platform performance, reduce risk, and support consistent delivery.
• Communicate risks, dependencies, and blockers while collaborating across engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field.
• 6+ years of experience developing applications with Java, Spring, and RESTful web services.
• 2+ years of experience with distributed or NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and/or Yugabyte.
• 2+ years of experience with continuous build and source control tools such as Bamboo, Bitbucket, or Git.
• 2+ years of experience developing cloud-based solutions on GCP, AWS, or Azure.
• Experience with AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code, Agile development, Jira, and Confluence.

Nice to have

• Experience building event-driven systems with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies.
• Experience developing real-time data or streaming applications.
• Exposure to Spring Batch, PySpark, or other batch-processing and data-pipeline technologies.
• Experience designing scalable distributed systems.
