What you will do

• Implement and operate cross-region replication with Amazon DynamoDB Global Tables for high availability, consistency, and disaster recovery.
• Codify multi-region infrastructure in Terraform or CDK, including KMS cross-account replication, IAM replication roles, secrets, and regional parameters.
• Build replication observability with Datadog and CloudWatch, including lag metrics, consistency checks, alarms, and runbook automation.
• Author and execute failover and failback runbooks, run AWS Fault Injection Service game-days, and measure RTO and RPO targets.
• Build CDC pipelines with DMS, DynamoDB Streams, Kafka Connect, or Debezium and own data validation and extraction cutovers from the monolith to microservices.
• Partner with application, data, SRE, and client teams on connection abstraction, retry and idempotency patterns, graceful degradation, design documentation, and operational handover.

Requirements

• 8+ years of production database engineering experience on AWS.
• Hands-on responsibility for payments, banking, brokerage, or comparable financial-services workloads.
• Deep production experience with DynamoDB and at least two of Aurora MySQL, Cassandra, ElastiCache using Redis or Valkey, DocumentDB, and Neptune; working knowledge of at least two additional technologies from this group.
• Practical production experience with DynamoDB Global Tables, including multi-region deployment operations and failure scenarios involving replication conflicts, regional outages, replication delays, consistency issues, or version skew.
• Strong Terraform or CDK skills, including building multi-region modules from scratch and explaining design trade-offs.
• Operational experience with CDC tooling such as DMS, DynamoDB Streams, Kafka Connect, or Debezium, including schema drift, ordering guarantees, and replay.
• Linux and networking fundamentals, including VPC, Transit Gateway, peering, and DNS, plus IAM and KMS proficiency.
• Solid written communication and the ability to operate in a regulated client environment.

Nice to have

• Cassandra multi-data-center operations at scale, including nodetool workflows, repair strategy, tombstone management, and cross-region anti-entropy.
• AWS MSK or Kafka MirrorMaker 2 experience for cross-region event replication.
• Experience with Datadog Database Monitoring and custom CloudWatch metrics.
• AWS Database Specialty or Solutions Architect Associate or Professional certification.
