TL;DR
Wetland Scientist (Environmental Permitting/Natural Resources): Conducting wetland delineations, field investigations, permit applications, and regulatory compliance work across New Jersey and New York with an accent on USACE, NJDEP, and NYSDEC requirements. Focus on assessing soils, hydrology, vegetation, and threatened and endangered species habitats, preparing technical documentation, and coordinating with regulatory agencies.

Location: Hybrid in Florham Park, NJ; Neptune, NJ; or New York, NY

What you will do

  • Conduct wetland delineations and boundary flagging using U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and state methodologies.
  • Prepare permit applications and supporting documentation for New Jersey and New York environmental programs.
  • Perform field investigations, including soil sampling, hydrology assessments, and vegetation surveys.
  • Support threatened and endangered species habitat assessments.
  • Prepare technical reports, exhibits, and agency correspondence.
  • Coordinate with USACE, NJDEP, NYSDEC, and the Environmental Protection Agency, while supporting GIS mapping and multidisciplinary project delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, or a related field.
  • 2–10 years of relevant experience.
  • Working toward or holding Professional Wetland Scientist certification.
  • Familiarity with the USACE wetland delineation manual, regional supplements, and state manuals.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to conduct fieldwork in varied outdoor conditions.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Wetland Professional in Training status.
  • Experience with New Jersey and/or New York environmental permitting.
  • Experience with GPS and GIS field tools such as Trimble and ArcGIS Field Maps.
