OT & Automation Engineer (Industrial Control Systems)

Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom

Salary: Up to £52,000 basic per year plus competitive benefits

What you will do

• Support maintenance, troubleshooting, improvement, and design modifications for operational technology and industrial control systems.
• Develop and maintain ICS network architecture documentation, control system backups, recovery processes, business continuity plans, and spare-parts inventories.
• Support automation projects by preparing technical solutions and specifications, assessing feasibility and costs, selecting vendors, and coordinating implementation.
• Work with engineering, IT, regional automation and digital teams, integrators, suppliers, and subcontractors to deliver automation solutions.
• Support OT cyber security activities, including risk and vulnerability assessments, threat mitigation, asset lifecycle management, awareness training, and compliance.
• Maintain control system documentation and support functional safety activities, process hazard reviews, and reliable plant operations.

Requirements

• Degree in Electronics, Automation, Industrial Control, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years of experience in automation or control systems engineering.
• Experience maintaining industrial control systems in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting skills, with experience using Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Honeywell, ABB, or similar platforms.
• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols, including Profibus, Modbus, Ethernet, and wireless networks.
• Knowledge of cyber security principles, network architecture, data acquisition systems, SQL or similar databases, OPC environments, field instrumentation, and plant control systems.
