Software Developer II (Backend)

Location: Remote within the United States, or onsite at the global headquarters in State College, Pennsylvania, USA.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, and maintain backend processors that ingest, validate, transform, and distribute real-time weather data.
• Build processing capabilities for new weather data providers, formats, business requirements, and product features.
• Design database schemas and SQL objects supporting backend processing applications.
• Develop reliable, maintainable, testable, and observable software for production deployment and operation.
• Investigate and resolve software defects, production issues, and operational incidents.
• Collaborate with software engineers, data operations, product managers, database administrators, and platform teams in an Agile environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience designing and developing backend services.
• Experience with Scala or Java and functional programming concepts.
• Experience deploying applications in cloud environments such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with relational database schema design, SQL, XML, JSON, RESTful APIs, and regular expressions.
• Strong communication, analytical, troubleshooting, debugging, and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with event-driven, distributed, or message-based systems.
• Experience with weather, environmental, geospatial, or Earth science data.
• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Azure.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced development environment.
