Software Engineer, Cryptography

Location: Bellevue, WA or Menlo Park, CA, with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week

Base pay: $166,000–$195,000 USD annually in Zone 1; $147,000–$172,000 in Zone 2; $130,000–$152,000 in Zone 3, depending on work location.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain production services and infrastructure for key management, encryption, and decryption.
• Architect, launch, and scale an in-house card-processing environment for sensitive card, financial, and tax-related data.
• Write maintainable production code and operational tooling across software, infrastructure, and security controls.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on migrations, adoption of shared cryptographic capabilities, and safe system design.
• Participate in a light rotating on-call schedule to maintain availability, security, and operational reliability.

Requirements

• Experience building, operating, or supporting production services, distributed systems, or infrastructure.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Python, Go, Java, C#, or C++.
• Ability to reason about complex systems and work across software development, infrastructure, and operational reliability.
• Clear technical communication and proactive collaboration skills.
• Curiosity about security engineering principles and willingness to participate in on-call support.

Nice to have

• Experience in SRE, platform engineering, or cloud security.
• Familiarity with key management, secrets management, symmetric encryption, or public/private key pairs.
• Experience handling sensitive financial, payment, or card data in regulated environments.
• Experience supporting internal customer migrations or driving platform adoption.
