Staff Software Engineer, Product Security (Cybersecurity)

Location: Hybrid in Menlo Park, California, or Bellevue, Washington, United States

Salary: $236,000–$339,250 per year

What you will do

• Set product security direction across multiple engineering teams and influence architecture decisions before implementation.
• Design and build security-critical services, frameworks, and controls adopted as engineering defaults.
• Lead threat modeling and security design reviews for complex, high-risk platform systems.
• Embed secure-by-design principles into the product development lifecycle with product and engineering leaders.
• Investigate severe security issues, eliminate underlying vulnerability classes, and own initiatives from scope through delivery.
• Mentor engineers and evaluate emerging security tooling, including AI-assisted analysis and automation.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with significant product or application security focus.
• Deep expertise designing and building secure, large-scale distributed systems or platforms.
• Experience driving cross-team technical decisions, threat modeling, secure design reviews, and complex vulnerability remediation.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Java, Go, Rust, C++, or Python.
• Ability to structure ambiguous security problems and align stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Experience securing cloud-native or multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
• Knowledge of cryptography, identity and access management, or large-scale data security.
• Experience applying AI or GenAI workflows to security analysis, detection, or automation.
• Open-source security contributions, published security research, or collaboration with detection, incident response, or offensive security teams.
