TL;DR
AV Technician (Audio-Visual Systems): Providing technical support, maintenance, troubleshooting, and event services for classroom, conferencing, lecture capture, webinar, and digital signage systems at UBC Vancouver Campus with an accent on AV operations, preventative maintenance, and user support. Focus on diagnosing complex equipment and system failures, coordinating integrations and repairs, and delivering reliable setups for academic sessions and special events.

Location: hirify.global Vancouver Campus, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; primarily on-site with occasional off-campus travel

Salary: $5,538.94–$6,497.44 CAD monthly

What you will do

  • Provide first-line technical support for audio-visual systems in classrooms, lecture theatres, meeting rooms, labs, and digital signage environments.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and deploy AV equipment, classroom computers, network connections, and related software.
  • Support video conferencing, webinars, lecture capture, streaming, and recording sessions, including equipment setup, configuration, testing, and basic production editing.
  • Manage AV support and equipment for special events, coordinating with faculty, staff, conference services, event coordinators, vendors, and contractors.
  • Coordinate system integrations, implementations, documentation, room bookings, digital signage, equipment rentals, shipping, receiving, and user training.
  • Oversee assigned student workers and coordinate maintenance activities across assigned zones.

Requirements

  • University degree in a relevant discipline or technical program and at least four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Class 5 British Columbia driver's licence required; a driving record check and background checks are required.
  • Current knowledge of information technology, AV systems, webinar platforms, AV production software, Windows, macOS, and laptop support.
  • Ability to troubleshoot independently, prioritize work under pressure, document incidents, and communicate effectively with diverse users.
  • Ability to use hand tools and basic electronic test equipment, lift and carry up to 25 kg, and stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and respect for diverse perspectives.

Nice to have

  • Two-year media technical program or certifications such as CTS, BiAmp, Crestron, Extron, Cisco video conferencing, or InfoComm.
  • Experience with Final Cut Pro, Pro Tools, RoomView, and digital support certification.
