Director of Development, Strategic Opportunities (Major-Gift Fundraising): Managing strategic fundraising programs, donor portfolios, major-gift solicitations, and development operations for university priorities with an accent on donor cultivation, stewardship, and complex project coordination. Focus on developing high-value proposals, guiding solicitation strategies, mentoring fundraising staff, and protecting donor relationships and funds through sound judgment.
Location: Vancouver Campus, Vancouver, BC, Canada
Salary: $10,459.67–$15,675.58 CAD monthly

What you will do
- Support senior development leadership in securing private and public-sector funding for university priorities.
- Manage and evaluate development projects, unit goals, operational plans, and donor pipelines.
- Build and manage a portfolio of 75–150 major-gift prospects, including discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
- Develop proposals, solicitation materials, donor recognition programs, and stewardship processes for gifts of $50,000 and above.
- Advise senior administrators and development staff on fundraising policies, fiscal matters, donor negotiations, and complex confidential information.
- Supervise, mentor, develop, and evaluate fundraising and support staff as required.
Requirements
- University degree in a relevant discipline.
- At least eight years of related professional experience, including five years in fundraising, alumni engagement, advancement, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience in major-gift fundraising and strategy development.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, strategic planning, communication, interpersonal, negotiation, conflict-resolution, and project-coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently with discretion, tact, diplomacy, sound judgment, and attention to detail when dealing with major donors and senior university administrators.
- Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and respect for diverse perspectives.
Nice to have
- Graduate degree or undergraduate degree in commerce, marketing, or economics.
- Three years of meeting or exceeding annual metrics at Associate Director level or equivalent.
- Experience with a centralized fundraising system and Microsoft Office in an MS Windows environment.
- Knowledge of the university environment and academic structure.
