Senior Software Engineer (Metadata)

Salary: $139,869–$167,849.50 USD annually

What you will do

• Design and implement features and performance improvements for metadata services, including discovery, catalog, lineage, and run history.
• Build, test, review, and maintain performant backend code and reusable components.
• Write technical designs, evaluate trade-offs, and lead feature-level implementation.
• Improve test coverage, reduce technical debt, and troubleshoot production issues through post-mortems and mitigation plans.
• Collaborate with product managers, QE, customer support, and engineering peers on scalable product delivery.
• Participate in on-call rotations and use AI coding assistants and conversational AI for development and SDLC artifacts.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building backend services and solving complex engineering problems.
• Experience with distributed systems, cloud computing, and containerization using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Proficiency in a modern backend or systems language such as Python, Java, C++, or C#.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Ability to independently lead feature and design work, explain trade-offs, and identify improvements to existing systems.
• Fluent use of AI code assistants, coding agents, and conversational AI is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Buildkite, Datadog, or Grafana.
• Experience with ETL, ELT, or cloud-based data platforms.
• Experience with metadata, catalog, lineage, discovery, or search systems.
• Experience with GraphQL APIs, high-throughput multi-tenant services, analytics engineering, or the dbt ecosystem.
