Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

Location: Must be based in the United States

Salary: $150,000 – $170,000

What you will do

• Design and scale backend systems for data infrastructure, including PostgreSQL models and Kafka-driven event pipelines.
• Develop and maintain the GraphQL API that serves as the primary interface for scientific and clinical data.
• Lead the design and integration of new services and components for data and event processing.
• Collaborate with platform and application teams to implement APIs that unlock new workflows for clinical studies.
• Draft RFCs to lead complex feature discovery and technical design phases.
• Ensure data integrity, completeness, and predictable behavior across the system.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend development experience, with at least 2 years focused on data platforms and infrastructure.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and PostgreSQL, including manual query tuning and schema design.
• Hands-on experience with data streaming using Kafka or equivalent technologies.
• Proficiency in Python or Julia.
• Experience with containerized environments (Kubernetes) and IaC tools (Terraform/Helm).
• Familiarity with GraphQL and Node.js.
• Must be based in the United States for this fully remote role.

Nice to have

• Experience with Julia is a strong plus.
