Embedded Systems Engineer-Federal (Robotics): Designing, integrating, and deploying embedded compute systems for wheeled robotic platforms with an accent on firmware, Linux configuration, ROS data streams, and ARM/x86 SBC performance. Location: Fully onsite at the Mission Viejo, California office; U.S. Person eligibility required

What you will do

  • Architect, configure, evaluate, and select ARM/x86 embedded compute platforms and single-board computers for robotic applications.
  • Customize Linux environments, including Ubuntu, Yocto, and JetPack, and configure ROS middleware and I/O interfaces.
  • Integrate compute systems with sensors and robotic platforms using USB, Ethernet, GMSL, I²C, SPI, CAN, and similar protocols.
  • Build drivers, ROS nodes, data acquisition pipelines, configuration files, launch scripts, and firmware update workflows.
  • Conduct system-level testing, including thermal profiling, latency measurement, power analysis, and performance monitoring.
  • Support hardware procurement, production scaling, incoming-unit QA, root-cause analysis, diagnostics, watchdogs, and health checks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in Computer Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with embedded platforms such as Jetson, Raspberry Pi, x86 NUCs, or custom SBCs.
  • Proficiency with Linux system configuration, scripting, headless deployment tools, and firmware development for microcontrollers in bare-metal or RTOS environments.
  • Strong C++ and Python programming skills for embedded and application-level development.
  • Experience with hardware/software debugging tools, ROS, device drivers, TF, and data streaming or publishing.
  • U.S. Person eligibility is required, including U.S. citizenship, U.S. nationality, lawful permanent residency, refugee status, or asylee status.

Nice to have

  • Experience taking robotic systems from prototype to large-scale production.
  • Experience with harsh field environments and deployed autonomous vehicles, drones, or ruggedized robots.
  • Fluency across software, electrical, and mechanical systems, plus knowledge of robotics autonomy stacks.
