TL;DR
Embedded Systems Engineer, Humanoid Robotics (C++/Python/ROS2): Developing compute platforms, firmware, Linux kernel components, and sensor and actuator drivers for humanoid robots with an accent on real-time performance, edge ML integration, and safety-conscious hardware-software design. Salary: $135,000–$185,000 per year, plus benefits, equity, and generous time off.

What you will do

  • Design embedded compute platforms using ARM, SoCs, and microcontrollers while balancing size, weight, and power constraints.
  • Bring up and customize bare-metal and RTOS firmware, board support packages, bootloaders, and Linux kernel components.
  • Develop and integrate drivers for cameras, LiDAR, IMUs, tactile sensors, motors, and joint actuators.
  • Implement deterministic wired and wireless communication, timing, diagnostics, watchdogs, and health monitoring.
  • Build sensor-to-actuator data pipelines and enable real-time edge inference for perception and manipulation models.
  • Expose interfaces through ROS/ROS2 and DDS, generalize the platform across humanoid robots, and implement e-stop and safety monitoring.

Requirements

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on embedded systems experience; candidates from mid-level to senior and staff levels are considered.
  • Proficiency in C++ and Python, with experience in firmware, RTOS, Linux kernel development, device drivers, and BSP bring-up.
  • Experience with embedded sensors and actuators, including cameras, LiDAR, IMUs, tactile sensors, motors, and joint systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Ethernet, CAN/CAN-FD, SPI, I2C, UART, USB, PCIe, wireless links, and timing protocols such as PTP.
  • Familiarity with GPU, TPU, or NPU acceleration, CUDA or TensorRT, ROS/ROS2, DDS, and SWaP-constrained designs.

Nice to have

  • Experience with humanoid or other legged robot platforms and manipulation or motor control.
  • Linux kernel modules, PREEMPT_RT, kernel debugging, and deterministic low-jitter timing in production systems.
  • Safety-critical robotics experience, including e-stop circuitry, safety monitoring, ISO 13849, or ISO 10218.
  • Experience collaborating with ML or perception teams on model latency, memory, and throughput requirements.
