TL;DR
Technical UI Designer (Unreal Engine): Building and polishing player-facing interfaces for the next Subnautica game with an accent on UMG, Blueprints, responsive behavior, accessibility, and cross-platform performance. Focus on designing data-driven UI architecture, implementing gameplay-reactive animations, and debugging UI systems against platform performance targets.

Location: Remote

Salary: $120,000–$146,000 annually in California

What you will do

  • Own UI implementation from wireframes through final polish across target platforms.
  • Build widgets, classes, structures, and data-driven components supporting gameplay needs.
  • Implement responsive animations and interactive behavior driven by gameplay events, player input, and UI state.
  • Collaborate with UI/UX design, UI art, technical design, and engineering to deliver functional, accessible, performant, and polished interfaces.
  • Advise on UI architecture, Blueprint versus native-code implementation, and development workflows.
  • Optimize and debug UMG and Blueprint issues while improving UI pipelines, documentation, and organization.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical UI Designer, including at least one shipped Unreal Engine title in this role.
  • Proficiency with UMG, Blueprints, and Enhanced Input.
  • Strong understanding of Unreal UI architecture, lifecycle events, state management, and UI performance.
  • Experience creating animated, responsive, data-driven components such as HUDs, health bars, popups, and action prompts.
  • Strong UI/UX, interaction design, visual design, debugging, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.

Nice to have

  • Programming experience in C++, C#, or similar languages.
  • Familiarity with Photoshop or Illustrator, UI materials, UMG Viewmodels, and 3D models in UI.
  • Experience with early-access release models.
