Principal Software Engineer (Data Platform)

Location: Hybrid working in London, Salford, or Glasgow, United Kingdom

Salary: £80,000–£87,000 per year, depending on relevant skills, knowledge, and experience.

What you will do

• Lead the optimisation, performance, evolution, and modernisation of data lake and data warehouse platforms.
• Support data services that enable audience personalisation and efficient access, querying, and analysis across the organisation.
• Partner with architects, product leaders, and stakeholders on technical vision, system architecture, and architectural decisions.
• Guide Infrastructure-as-Code using AWS CDK and CloudFormation, and design reliable CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline, and Jenkins.
• Design monitoring and observability solutions using tools including CloudWatch and Grafana.
• Promote TDD, test automation, DevSecOps, security best practices, mentorship, and cross-team technical knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• Extensive DevOps or DataOps experience building, scaling, securing, and optimising cloud-native data warehouse infrastructure such as Redshift.
• Strong experience with AWS services including S3, EC2, SQS, Lambda, IAM, Managed Airflow, Athena, and VPC.
• Expertise with databases including DynamoDB, Redis, Aurora, and Athena, together with cloud solution architecture.
• Advanced Infrastructure-as-Code experience with AWS CDK and CloudFormation, plus GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and GitOps workflows.
• Deep understanding of cloud security, governance, compliance, scalability, reliability, progressive delivery, and resilience engineering.
• Extensive experience with at least one programming language, such as Python.
