Senior Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Berlin-Schöneberg, Germany — hybrid, 3 days in the office and 2 days remote

What you will do

• Own backend development end to end, including technology selection, architecture design, and feature implementation.
• Build and scale the auction backend supporting 40,000 buyers across more than 20 countries and 130,000 vehicles sold annually.
• Use coding agents, LLMs, and AI-assisted development as part of the daily engineering workflow.
• Define code quality standards, development practices, and CI/CD pipelines in collaboration with other functions.
• Mentor engineers, share technical knowledge, and improve backend engineering practices.
• Challenge existing approaches and introduce better technical solutions where needed.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years focused on backend development.
• Deep TypeScript proficiency with strong Node.js, NestJS, and PostgreSQL experience.
• Experience mentoring engineers and raising engineering standards.
• Strong knowledge of Git, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience working with Scrum or Kanban, JIRA, and Confluence.
• English at C1 level or above and residence in Berlin or readiness to relocate to Germany.

Nice to have

• Experience with WebSockets or other real-time systems.
• Experience with Elasticsearch, Lucene, or similar search frameworks.
• Automotive or B2B trading experience.
• Conversational German.
