Senior Backend Engineer (Rust): Building and scaling the hirify.global Connect API, a high-performance customer-facing data platform using Rust, TypeScript, and AWS with an accent on API design, data modeling, and infrastructure reliability. Focus on designing event-driven systems, improving CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code, and driving technical decisions across teams serving millions of users.

Location: Hybrid work in Hamburg or Berlin, Germany. Work from abroad is available for up to 30 calendar days per year.

What you will do

• Design and build scalable, customer-facing APIs with Rust, TypeScript, and AWS Lambda.
• Own data modeling, data flows, and API reliability across AWS infrastructure.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code with AWS CDK and improve CI/CD practices.
• Collaborate with data, search, and product teams to advance API products.
• Mentor colleagues and shape technical direction through sound judgment and proactive communication.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience building scalable backend systems and APIs.
• Strong experience with AWS services including Lambda, API Gateway, EventBridge, SQS/SNS, and AWS CDK.
• Solid programming experience with Rust, TypeScript, or comparable languages such as C/C++ or Python.
• Experience designing APIs for external customers.
• Comfort with Docker, Git, testing, independent ownership, and proactive communication.

Nice to have

• Rust experience in production.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and DynamoDB.
